Grassroots Government Activities Committee

Picture
ASHRAE members, are there particular local, city, state, or even federal codes that you either love or loathe and want to voice your opinion?

Do you want to get involved with local government and connect with local officials on a multitude of HVAC and energy related issues? Well, if you’re still reading this, and why wouldn’t you be, I’ve got the perfect opportunity for you.

As your new Grassroots Government Advocacy Committee or GGAC chair (fancy name for saying we engage local officials on behalf of ASHRAE), I want to invite you to join our cause by becoming a committee member.

We intend to address many issues with government agencies, utility companies, building officials, school system facility staff, state energy code officials, and anyone that will hear our cause.

This year’s GGAC committee will focus on timeless classics such as:
  • Legionella – Promoting Standard 188
  • Geothermal – Where did all the incentives go?
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Emerging Refrigerants

We also plan to arrange joint meetings with other organizations, such as Building Owners and Managers Association and International Facility Managers Association to promote and advance common initiatives.

This will be a unique experience for any ASHRAE LI chapter members interested in getting involved with local government and other organizations with similar interests. It’ll also be a great way for you to learn more about local and state codes and how government works...and in many cases doesn’t.

They’ll be endless opportunities for chapter members to network inside and outside of chapter meetings and interact with government officials of all levels. Here’s the thing, I need your help to do this. If you’re interested in participating, please contact me as soon as possible so we can get the ball rolling and get you involved.

I look forward to hearing from any potential committee members and to another great year with ASHRAE. See you at the meetings!

Andrew Blom
Grassroots Government Activities Chair
